CHASE FOR AN ANGEL Author: Christy Poff ISBN: NA 8/2004 HISTORICAL Publisher: Swanbeauty Publications
I don’t really know where to begin with this novel. The first several chapters of CHASE FOR AN ANGEL slowly get you ready for the meat of the story. Once you get to the heart of this novel, you are exposed to unimaginably graphic depictions of some of the worst brutality humans are capable of. I had to stop several times while reading this, because I was overcome with emotion. Andrew and Jessie share a very special bond, and you ask yourself throughout this novel if any bond would be strong enough to weather the horrible trials that they are forced to endure. I cannot stress enough that this is a very graphic novel. If you are able to read the graphic parts, you are rewarded with a nice ending. Once the story started flowing, I was caught up in it and really became emotionally involved. I think that this novel, set during the Civil War, has historical significance because it describes some of the horrors of war that we sometimes try to ignore because they are too horrendous and degrading to imagine. We know that men and women die during war, but there are also those victims who are brutally tortured and wish for death, but go on living. I think that Jessie is probably the strongest heroine that I have ever met, and Andrew has to be one of the most loving and determined heroes. Carrye Syma |
