Harley Street by Lynne Connolly"Harley Street" is the fourth in the Richard and Rose series by Lynne Connolly, set in mid Georgian times.

Richard and Rose Kerre, Lord and Lady Strang, return from their honeymoon in Venice to prepare for Rose's debut in society. While visiting her aunt, Rose finds herself in the middle of a scandal, when the body of a maid is discovered. With the help of the staff agency they own, Thompsons, Richard and Rose try to solve the murder, but uncover more than they expected - including a dark secret from Richard's past, a secret so dark even he was unaware of it.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

Richard and Rose Kerre returned to London after their honeymoon to settle into the season of the ton. They are partners in an employment agency that handle staff for the high quality of London. But they have a special group of people that work as spys in the homes of the elite in order to find out information for their underground spy agency.

Someone is killed in her aunt's home and Rose is there. She and her husband become involved in solving the murder, only to have a deeper mystery evolve.

HARLEY STREET by Lynne Connolly, is definitely a mystery. This novel seems to be a sequel to another novel. The problem is, if the reader has not read the other novel (which I hadn't), they are lost for most of the book trying to figure out what is going on. Most sequels stand alone, but this one definitely does not. The writer mentions things that have happened to Richard and Rose that the reader has no idea what she is talking about.

However, Ms. Connolly writes great dialogue, strong characters, and eventually a good plot. She has a nice writing style and has a talent for words. I just wish this book would have been joined with the first one in a long tale, and it would have worked out perfectly. I would still like to read a novel of hers that stood alone to see what she could do with it.
