The Pirate's Jewel by Cheryl HoweA BOOTY...

Jewel Sandersor's pirate father disappeared ten years previous, but in her care he'd left a map to fabulous wealth. She guarded it—just as she guarded her hope to see her father again. She would give anything, brave any adventure, for just that. But the man who returned to Charles Town was not her sire. And while the indigo-eyed seducer was dressed as a gentleman, Jewel knew to her core that he was a rogue.

REVEALED...

Nolan Kenyon came for the map. What he found was the daughter of his enemy, his friend, the pirate who'd taught him everything but whom he'd marooned on an island to die. The beautiful Jewel's kiss burned hotter than a thousand tropical suns, but such would be nothing compared to the heat of her fury at her father's fate. He'd recovered the map to a lifetime of riches; now Nolan had to find a way to keep something infinitely more precious.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

This is the second book by Cheryl Howe that I have had the privilege to read, the first one being THE PIRATE AND THE PURITAN.  After finishing the THE PIRATE AND THE PURITAN, I became a bona fide fan of Ms. Howe's.  And, with the writing of THE PIRATE'S JEWEL, she has added another gem to her rapidly growing treasure chest of Historical Romance Hits!  Her latest book, THE PIRATE'S JEWEL, was indeed just that—a jewel!  From the beginning paragraph to the last line in the book, I found myself totally absorbed in the book's characters.  I found that I really cared about what happens to the main characters, Jewel Sanderson, and the "privateer", Nolan Kenton.

The book starts by finding us in a tavern in Charles Town, where Jewel is a serving wench at the Quail and Queen.  As Jewel serves yet another round of grog to men who couldn't seem to keep their hands off of Jewel's derriere,  she contemplates her future—or lack of it, as far as Jewel can see.  Even though Jewel is exceedingly pretty, and sharp-witted as well as intelligent, her prospects for having a happy marriage were practically nil. You see, there was this tiny, little issue in Jewel's past...

She is the illegitimate daughter of the infamous pirate, Bellamy Leggett.   Leggett had led Jewel to believe all through her childhood years that he was an honorable man, and that he would be coming back for Jewel and her Mother to take them away to a life much nicer than the dreary existence that they were having to pound out here in Charles Town.   But so many years had gone by since the last time she saw her father, Jewel figured that the time would soon come for her to marry Latimer Payne, who didn't really want to marry her because of his desire for her.  In all truth, he needed a housekeeper and a mother for his brood of surly children.  Suddenly, a man is standing in the doorway of the Quail and Queen, one so familiar that it sends shivers up Jewel's spine: Nolan Kenton. Tall, dark and handsome might well be a cliche, but, it was an apt description of Nolan. The same Nolan Kenton that had been one of her father's crew all those years ago. The same Nolan Kenton who had come back, not to rescue Jewel from a life of non-stop toil and drudgery, but for a totally different reason—the same reason that gave Jewel hope that someday soon her father would come for her, and take her to exotic places across the sea. Nolan had come back for the treasure map, the thing that Bellamy had entrusted to Jewel the last time that he saw her.

From their initial fiery reunion, to Jewel stowing away on board Nolan's ship, The Integrity, this is an action-packed love story that will take your mind and heart to exotic places across the sea, where Jewel finally comes to terms with her feelings about her pirate father, who she finally realizes abandoned Jewel and her mother without so much as a backward glance.  He had left them penniless, but always walking away from them with the  promise of "someday soon."  Jewel  reprimanded herself yet again, just like the many times she had before, for  being so naive as to believe anything that a dirty pirate had promised!  And Nolan—the man that she has finally admitted to herself that she is deeply in love with—for all Jewel knows, Nolan could be his partner in crime, or, more likely, the man who had killed her father.  Yes, she hates the man, but he is still her father, and she can't bear the thought of his brutal death at the hands of pirates who were renowned for their methods of torture.

At the same time, Nolan carries around a serious weight of guilt, terrified that if Jewel ever finds out the truth about how her father died, she will be lost to him forever. And to make matters even worse, Nolan is just now starting to realize that in Jewel, he has found his once in a lifetime love, his soul mate.  Nolan just has to find a way to keep Jewel in his life!

Be prepared to be swept away by the latest "Jewel" by Cheryl Howe.  This is one book that you shouldn't miss!

This is the third romance novel that Ms. Howe has produced.  She currently resides in California with her Husband, dog, and “Miss Kitty”.
