Do you believe there is one person who is destined to share your heart and life? Do you believe two souls can return time and time again searching for each other? What if these two souls return time and again because a spell has been cast on them that it shall be so? That is the story of THE WARRIOR. If you like your medievals to have a bit of magic and legend to be fulfilled, you will like this book. I know I did. Magnus Armstrong refuses Anna, his true love and soulmate, because she is barren and cannot give him an heir. And so the spell is cast. It is said that the seventh male descending from his line will be Magnus reincarnated, and he will reclaim not only his lands, but his soulmate. Michael, The Hawk of Inverfyre, is that seventh male. He has come home to reclaim his mother's lands. Upon his return, he meets an old crone who claims to know him. She calls him Magnus and kisses him, which causes visions in his mind. Needless to say this freaks him out, but he mentions the bizarre occurrence to no one. He knows of the Legend, but refuses to give it any credence. Lady Aileen of Abernye is known as the Ice Princess. She is considered an old maid and expected to stay that way. She desires no man; repulsed at thought of a man's touch. When the Hawk comes to her home, she distrusts him immediately. His reputation is renown and not good. She questions why he has come. Yet she finds that she is undeniably attracted to him which confuses her more. When he kisses her, her mind is filled with visions of another kiss, in another time. She believes she is going mad as her mother had been thought to be. For Michael, he has decided he must have her. He has never met another like her and is captivated. He quickly weds her against her will. She believes he is a sorcerer. She fears this man and distrusts him. Each time he kisses her, her mind is filled with visions. He believes she is mad with her talk of visions. Once Aileen learns of the Legend, she begins to believe they are the souls seeking each other. Michael begins to believe she is bewitching him. He thinks her mad, yet cannot stay away from her. This book is very well written. While it is based on legends being fulfilled and spells and curses being cast, I found it very believable. Maybe because of the main characters reactions to the possibility of it being true. They both fight it; neither want to believe their future and love depends on the breaking of a spell. In the end, it is trust in each other and their love that will save the day. This was definitely a book worth reading. Sue Cloud |
