Day of Fire by Kathleen Nance

Canada: For over a century it's been closed off, quarantined. Now, in 2176, its people thrive. The country still needs peacekeepers, though— and the Mounties are there. Be It All. Do It All. Those are the high-tech police force's twin mottos. They're Day Daniels's mottos, too.

But things are heating up. Someone or something called the Shadow Voice is broadcasting treason, and Day's determined to stamp it out. Seeking the source of the threat, Day enteres the techbar, Flash Point. There she meets Lian Firebird, an enigmatic government operative. He offers— no, insists— upon joining her trek to the legendary Citadel. Well, Day decides, Mounties work alone, but she can still do and be it all— even with this hunk at her heels.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

DAY OF FIRE left the starting gate at a dead run and never let up. This fast, furious futuristic story, bolstered by fine writing, gobs of sexual tension, two great lead characters and non-stop action, was a truly exciting, wild ride.

Ms. Nance has created one heck of a romantic couple for DAY OF FIRE. Tough, loyal, honest, dedicated Canadian Mountie, Day Daniels is a wonderful heroine. This pint-sized, fiery whirlwind meets her match when she is teamed with sexy, mysterious plague hunter, Dr.Lian Firebird.

The budding romance between Day and Lian is definitely the focus of this tightly constructed plot. These two captivating, bright, stubborn characters, racing against time to stop a deadly virus from destroying Canada's future relations with the world, spend lots of time together. Day and Lian might have some conflicting ideals and alot of obstacles to overcome, but the couple sizzle together.

This pair's steamy relationship could well thaw Canada's frozen landscape.

DAY OF FIRE isn't bogged down with alot of high-tech jargon so even readers who aren't futuristic romance fans (and I'm not) should enjoy this rollercoaster ride. Ms. Nance has woven an entertaining, unique love story against a backdrop of a deadly threat relevant to today's society.
