Unleashed by C.J. Barry

Lacey Garrett was about to be free.  Before, she'd been shackled by despair.  Her fiancé had run off with her business, her savings, and stuck her with his cat.  What had she done to stop him?  Nothing.

But she'd just been beamed to another planet. Here, she wasn't an ordinary Earthwoman; she was part of a team.  Here she could help a man like the roguish starship captain Zain Masters, could take a little weight off his broad shoulders if only he would let her.  Here, she could face krudo , interplanetary defense systems, and galaxy-wide conspiracies.  She could even defeat the monstrous Bobzilla that looked like her ex-fiancé!  For Zain, Lacey could do anything—because his kisses, his touch, everything about him felt like destiny.  And that destiny was the true Lacey Garrett…UNLEASHED.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

Lacey Garrett has been walked all over so much she may as well have WELCOME written across her forehead. She's tried her whole life to fit in with her family, friends, and workplace. Her ex-fiance, Robert, was the straw that broke the camel's back. He constantly corrected her, isolated her from her friends and, to top it all off, stole her software application and life's savings. Now, completely broke and having no self-esteem, she is living in an old house of her aunt's in the mountains of Virginia with the only thing Robert left her - his cat Oliver.

Zain Masters is a intergalactic surveyor. He's on the run from bounty hunters and InterGlax - his former employer and the group who polices the galaxy. He's been framed for killing his partner and has been forced to lead a solitary existence except for the company of his evolving computer, Reene.

Taking a closer look at a planet he is charting, Zain finds himself trapped on its surface. Pictures inside a dome seem to hold the key to deactivating the force field, but Zain can make no sense of it. The reply from an earthling to an email Zain has sent out seems to show promise of a solution.

Lacey suddenly finds herself and Oliver transported to a spaceship on another planet. Thinking, at first, that she is either in the middle of a dream or has finally lost her mind, she plays along with the gorgeous man in front of her. Once he has convinced her that neither is the case, Lacey only wants one thing - to go home to her less than perfect life. At least that's what she wants at first. Slowly, but surely, she discovers that she has more going for her than she ever gave herself credit for, and love for this alien man.

This was a good book and a nice change of pace for me. C.J. Barry has done a great job blending everyday attitudes and the theories of alien life forms. The story flows nicely, incorporating romance, life-threatening plots, and lots of humor.
