A Texan's Luck by Jodi Thomas

Captain Walker Larson received the shock of his life when a beautiful stranger boldly walked into his office—claiming to be his wife. His father may have bought Lacy Larson for him in a "Wife Lottery," but Walker had no desire for a bride—even one as captivating as the one standing before him. So he promptly sent Lacy back to Cedar Point.

Three years later, Lacy is shocked when Walker shows up on her doorstep—ordered by the military to protect his wife from a killer. Lacy wants nothing to do with the gruff soldier who once drove her away.

But despite their different lifestyles and expectations, she finds herself wondering if their marriage was a far better gamble than either of them had imagined...and what it would feel like to be in his arms...

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:Top Pick Award

I might have burned myself out on frontier books this year. Then I spied Jodi Thomas' new book, A TEXAN'S LUCK, the third book in her Wife Lottery series while out Christmas shopping. I am not a series reader, as I actually read out of order and sometimes just one out of a trilogy. But not Jodi Thomas' books. In fact, before the next book in this series comes out I plan to reread the first three again. Just to jog the memory and enjoy these wonderful couple's romances.

In A TEXAN'S LUCK, Lacy Larson is the youngest of the three wives. She was married to Captain Walker Larson by proxy by his father. After two years of marriage, Lacy hunts down her captain and makes him consummate the marriage. A few minutes afterwards, Walker puts her on a stage home, then continues his one love—being a soldier.

Now three years later Lacy's life is in danger. Walker is commanded to go home to protect his wife, a wife he never wanted. Living in the tiny apartment above the print shop in close quarters finds Walker giving orders to his very independent wife, as tempers flare and the sexual attraction sizzles. Walker has 30 days to catch the man that is threatening his wife and get back to being a soldier.

As Walker gets to know his wife, he finds it isn't so bad being married. But Lacy is counting the days until his leave is over...or is she counting the days she has to be by his side?

In A TEXAN'S LUCK we get to visit with Bailee and Carter McKoy from THE TEXAN'S WAGER and the good folks in Cedar Point, Texas. All of the books in the Wife Lottery are stand alone, but are so much more enjoyable read in order. Jodi Thomas' books are worth the wait, if only she wrote as fast as I read. <BG> Watch for THE TEXAN'S REWARD next year, when Ranger Dalton and Two Bits have their turn to fall in love.
