SOMETHING ABOUT THAT LADY Author: Carol McPhee ISBN:1590883292 9/2004 CONTEMPORARY Publisher: Wings ePress
After her husband's death, Brie Beaumont had gone on an Alaskan cruise to heal from a disastrous marriage to a man that used her to his own end. Aboard the ship she meets two delightful men, Matthew Cameron, who is blind, and his partner, Hank. Matthew asks Brie to continue her vacation with a visit to his family ranch, the Circle C, in Alberta, Canada. But she didn't expect to meet with open detestation from Matt's brother, Jed Cameron, who wants no women on his ranch. Jed is shocked that his brother brought a woman to the ranch with him, for all he sees is a beautiful woman with dollar signs in her head—a gold digger. He is disgusted with himself by the sudden lust and jealousy he feels. Jed and Matthew have an agreement: No woman would destroy their ranch like their mother when she left their father and the Circle C. Jed watches as Brie blooms on the Circle C ranch, enjoying the open range, the rustic ranch house, even his open hostility, challenging her at every turn. He begins to realize she is an accomplished horse woman, a talented artist and a loyal friend. Brie finds Jed exciting and terrifying, but at the same time she has a hard time trusting a man with her love again. But Jed tempts her. When Jed is injured in a plane crash, their love is tested to the limit, but with Matthew, Hank, and Brie, Jed just might find a woman on the ranch is just what they all need. I really enjoyed the banter between Jed and Brie. They sparked lust and excitement each time they came together. Jed has to learn to back off to let Matthew live his life, and later to accept help from both Matt and Brie when he can no longer do things for himself. Jed is a cowboy after my own heart, strong and sexy. <G> Ms. McPhee gives readers a wonderful panoramic view of Canada's Rocky Mountain Range, at times I felt like I wanted to pick up my paintbrushes again to start painting. Living in Texas with ranches and cowboys, this was a refreshing view of how Canadian cattlemen work their ranches. SOMETHING ABOUT THAT LADY is a stimulating summer read, and I look forward to Carol McPhee's future books. DeeKay |
