WEEKENDS

Author: Lindy S. Hudis ISBN: 1593740972 2/2005 CONTEMPORARY Publisher: WHISKEY CREEK PRESS

An innocent-sounding family reunion at an exclusive California beach resort turns into a weekend of murder, deceit, exposed secrets and unexpected intimate encounters. John Peterson has it all: He’s a respected, successful Beverly Hills entertainment lawyer with a loving wife and grown son, the strikingly handsome young film director Joe Peterson. Unbeknownst to the family, a brutal serial killer is lurking in the midst of all the wondrous festivities.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

WEEKENDS a nail-biting suspense with love, scandals, and murder. This novel is chock full of dysfunctional families with lots of dirty secrets.

There are several major players throughout, and the entire story takes place over the course of one weekend. There are numerous graphic moments in this novel which are not for the faint of heart. A couple of times I had to stop reading because the scenes were just too bloody for me; unfortunately, they described things that go on every day—crimes against women and children for which there is no excuse or forgiveness.

I cannot really say that there was any one character that I liked most of all, but a few standouts would be Beverly, known as Piglet thanks to her mother’s pet name, and the twins, Justin and Jason. There are several strong male and female characters in this novel, and I think that a lot of the storyline revolves around family ties and finding the strength in oneself to move past tragedies and look to the future.

I think that WEEKENDS will especially appeal to those who enjoy murder mysteries, but there’s also plenty of romance. I think readers will enjoy this one—be ready for one wild weekend!
