SOUL OF A WITCH Author: Angela Verdenius ISBN: 1590884639 6/2005 FUTURISTIC Publisher: WINGS ePRESS
Fans of paranormal and witchcraft will enjoy SOUL OF A WITCH. The heroine, Beulah, is a strong character who takes on the evil Hortra to save 14-year-old Will's life. The story is full of "astral traveling" and mind reading. Fans of adventure and mystery will enjoy this book, too, because it offers a quick-paced plot with plenty of twists and turns. However, if you're looking for romance, this may not be the book for you. It isn't until halfway through the story that Beulah even notices the dashing pirate Sinya—I tend to notice dashing pirates me'self—and even though they do become sexually aware of each other, and we are told they are "soul mates" by the author, I never thought there was much chemistry between them. Romance is a sort of "side dish" if you will. I did like the book. The characters are well-developed and amiable. I loved Sinya's pirate crew and Beulah's familiar, Petras. Ms. Vandenius is a good author, and even though I'm not the first to pick up a paranormal, I would say she's probably one of the better writers of the genre simply because she seems to know the subject thoroughly.
