The Loves of a D-Girl

When Lizzie Hubbard graduated from NYU she had a Screenwriting award, a supportive boyfriend, and a bright future. Seven years later, all she has left is a sharp tongue, a bad attitude and a lousy job toiling fruitlessly as a D-Girl developing screenplays for a movie producer whose biggest hits are far in his past.

Lizzie spends her days stockpiling office supplies, stealing quickies with a Brazilian bike messenger, and waiting to collect her severance benefits. But when her boss, in a last ditch effort to save his company, assigns her a seemingly hopeless script to fix, even a D-Girl as jaded as Lizzie can't resist the challenge to turn an amateur screenwriter into a player.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

THE LOVES OF A D-GIRL is a well-written novel that explores the life of Lizzie, a developmental director for a down-trodden producer. When she's dumped with a horrible script, she must work with the screenwriter to make it a hit.

I enjoyed the plot's twists and turns that kept this novel from being too predictable. The author's witty dialogue and well-rounded characters are the bright spot in this novel. It's a quick read, and overall a fine story, though I was a bit put-off with Lizzie. Her "quickies" with various men and how little it affected her bothered me a bit. I don't mind the heroine having a relationship with someone other than the hero, but I do want it to be a relationship in the full sense of the word - not just someone she uses for sex. I would recommend this one only to dedicated fans of the chick-lit genre.
