CHRISTIAN WAYS is a tedious and unexciting read that wearied this reviewer. There, I said it—and I feel bad for saying it because I'm a Christian and I don't want to write harshly about a sister, but... The main character, Christian, is too argumentative to warm up to; she's forever blasting someone whether she just met them or she's a guest in their house (i.e. Possible mother-in-law's home, Christmas Eve, innuendos, ugly words—a nice Christian girl would suck it up and get out, not trade waspish words.) My least favorite behavior the character displayed was that she strung-along the wimpish and whining Cameron who kept begging for her to either marry him or sleep with him. "No one will know." Doesn't he know the Lord? What is Christian doing with a man like this? Has she no discernment at all? Apparently not, because she falls in love with the least likeable character in the novel. Twenty-two-year-old Zack (8 years younger than Christian) speaks like a twelve year-old and acts like an eight year-old. His mean nicknames for others are corny and his jokes are dumb. There's nothing manly about him. I really struggled to finish this book. Cynthia Whitten |
