Parallel Attraction by Deidre Knight

It has been years since exiled alien king Jared Bennett thought of anything other than his people's fight for freedom. Now his rebel force has the one weapon that can turn the tide against their enemy: the key to the secrets of time. Victory has never been closer-but one woman has the power to change everything.

Kelsey Wells can't deny that there is something unearthly about her fierce attraction to Jared Bennett. His revelations about alien wars and time travel can't possibly be fact-yet with every seductive touch, every searing kiss, Kelsey circles closer to the truth: that although Jared is exactly what he says, he hasn't told her everything. And when the future crashes into the present, Kelsey must decide if his deception will cost them the love that should have been their destiny.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

Literary agent Deidre Knight's first novel is part Christine Feehan's Carpathians, part traditional romance, and part alien war science fiction. She offers us a complex mix of true bonding, true love, and true war. We have a reunion romance with a woman finding out that a boy she fell in love with many years ago is really an alien king, but then the woman turns out to have a destiny of her own, too.

All this is apparently the beginning of a new epic series. Unfortunately because there is so much setup going on, the last third of the book has an interlude of new characters and a lot of history and drama getting introduced before we get back to the love story.

It's actually all pretty interesting, if a little confusing and disjointed. I will add the caveat that I was continually interrupted while I read this book, so it's possible that it makes more sense if you are reading it over less than 10 days. But, I hope the next book in the series will explain more about the links between these aliens and humanity, and why they are fighting wars on Earth. If you like futuristic romances, Feehan's books, or science fiction, give this book a look.
