A Hard Place to Find by Jaxine Daniels

Simpliciter Paratus. Always ready—the motto of the Air Force 507th Rescue Squad.

Chris Gabriel left JAG to do something more ethical, more honest. He found his niche as a PJ. When an old flame shows up on his doorstep begging for sanctuary and his silence, he can't turn her away. The man who never lies, is forced to do just that. When her husband is found murdered in Gabe's apartment, and she has vanished, Chris is the only suspect. Offering her sanctuary was one thing, but taking the fall for murder quite another. Or so says his JAG attorney, Claire Janova, who must defend a man who will not defend himself.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

Chris "Angel" Gabriel is a former Washington DC JAG lawyer turned rescue squadron hero in California. He gave up his former life when his one-time lover Suzanne married his best friend, Max.

Everyone thinks he's honest to a fault, but the reality is he does have faults. Suzanne shows up on his doorstep one day. Not long after that, she disappears and he finds Max dead on his floor.

JAG sends lawyer Claire Janova to investigate. She lets Angel know that Suzanne has mental problems after being on a case in Iraq where she came under enemy fire. Angel is instantly attracted to Claire, and she to him. When, out of the blue, he is arrested for murdering Max, she steps in to be his personal lawyer.

While all his Team friends mobilize to puzzle out what happened, Claire and Angel work at cross purposes to figure out what is going on. They also romance each other—which seems to take priority over preparing for Angel's trial.

I was frequently confused by all the characters—I hadn't read the previous books in the series, which I'm sure would have helped.

This book has a category feel. If you've read the previous books in the series, or like series novels like Intimate Moments, you will enjoy this book.
