The Waterlord by Dawn Thompson

Lady Rebecca’s life changed forever in the blink of an eye. One moment she was fleeing her father across a storm-swept Bodmin Moor; in the next, her carriage overturned on a steep gorge. But she did not die. Somehow, she was pulled clear.

Safety, her rescuer promised. But how could Becca feel safe? There was an eerie luminosity about him, a fluid silver aura like the lightning filling the night. And while his voice was deep, mellow—comforting, like the music a stream made while rushing over pebbles—it, too, held a hint of the otherworldly. Who was this strange savior, this displaced foreign nobleman who offered up his home and did not want her to leave? Long moonlit walks to the nearby waterfall, tight-lipped servants, a kiss unlike any other: everything about the Count was an enigma. Becca had heard myths of the Fossegrim: creatures driven to find ecstasy with human women and then vanish forever. From their world, humans never returned. This man, Becca was willing to follow.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

THE WATERLORD by Dawn Thompson, is a super sexy paranormal read! It has great characters, sensual sex scenes and a romantic ending. I'm not a big fan of paranormal romances, but THE WATERLORD is definitely one I would recommend reading.

Miss Thompson's hero, Klaus, is half Fey and half human. He is what is a called a Fossegrim. They live and guard the waterfalls, and once in each generation they come to the mortal realm and mate with a woman. They impregnate her and leave her to raise their son alone, and when the son is of age, he finds his own waterfall and repeats their legacy. I know it sounds a bit confusing (my advice is to pick up the book and turn to page 73 and everything is explained within the next couple of pages), but it really does make an interesting story. Fortunately, and unfortunately for Klaus, Lady Rebecca (Becca) is just the woman for his needs. Running away from her father and her repulsive betrothed, Klaus ends up saving her and her maid's life.

Soon, Becca is taken to his "enchanted cottage by the waterfall" and her dreams are no longer her own. Klaus comes to her in her dreams and, WOW! she's starting to think that maybe her dreams aren't really dreams and that Klaus has some explaining to do. (I personally would just enjoy the dreams.) After eavesdropping on a conversation between Klaus and his confidant, she realizes that he's not human and takes her maid and runs away from him.

At this point in the story, we have Klaus who is in love with Becca. We have Becca's father, who has Becca in his custody again and is eager to announce her betrothal. Then there's the evil Sprite, who would love to erase Becca from Klaus's memory. Finally, there's the wee bit of a problem dealing with the fact that Klaus is neither wanted in the Fey or Human world.

I really did enjoy reading THE WATERLORD by Dawn Thompson. I was surprised by how well Miss Thompson weaved fantasy and reality together into a sexy and romantic story! And a big WOOHOO! to men who walk naked in the water by the pale moonlight...
