A Taste of Darkness by Nina Bangs

He’d lived a thousand years for this? Reinn Mackenzie was one ticked-off vampire.

Werewolves—furry pains in the butt. Werecats—sneaky whisker-twitching manipulators. Reinn hated them all. But most of all, he hated his job. Guardian of the Blood. What a crock.

The Mackenzie council, in its infinite stupidity, had ordered him to protect the purity of the clan’s bloodline. What purity? They were all just a bunch of bloodsuckers, for crying out loud. Besides, how could he destroy a clan member for mating with someone not on the council’s approved list when the very sight of a certain little werecat revved his engine?

Kisa Evans made it impossible for him to think about anything but the dangerous fantasy of freeing his own inner beast. No matter how he fought the desire to feel the soft heat of her throat beneath his lips, the craving only grew. Kisa might be the enemy, but he longed to show her the sensual pleasure to be found in... A Taste of Darkness.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

The Mackenzie council has named Reinn Mackenzie "The Guardian of The Blood". How in the heck he ever ended up with that title he will never understand. What his job is, basically, is to find any Mackenzie that is thinking about crossbreeding with a different species and kill them. Plain and simple. By any means necessary. That is entirely what he has in mind when he goes to the Woo Woo Inn—to get this job over with and get on with his life. Unfortunately, the crazy Mackenzie who is trying to crossbreed is marrying a werecat, and this particular werecat has got a sister who is making Reinn forget all about the noble job he has to perform.

Keesa is a great character. She is spunky, fun and beautiful—exactly the kind of woman that you would think would be a werecat. The problem is, Keesa isn't just a little ol' bobcat. When Keesa shifts she turns into none other than a saber-toothed tiger! When someone begins to torture Keesa by spraying catnip all over the place (catnip makes her turn), Reinn steps in to try and help solve the mystery—effectively putting his little killing-the-crazy-Mackenzie spree on the back burner.

For years, people have been telling me to try a Nina Bangs book. Now I understand why. A TASTE OF DARKNESS is fluffy, light and fun to read. I truly enjoyed watching Keesa face down five big, angry vampires so that she can have her man! A TASTE OF DARKNESS is a definite Top Pick read. Those who love quirky paranormals filled with fun and some good old-fashioned romance, should grab a copy of A TASTE OF DARKNESS.
