DESTINY'S WARRIOR by Heather Waters was a welcome surprise. When I first began reading, I was put off by Queine Elphina, her talk of Orbs and the creatures lurking around her. Too, her mother Lucette can hardly be called a sympathetic character and her appearance, with long, stringy hair and grotesque countenance, is unsettling. But once the story became Gavin and Nakkole's, I was hooked. Really, completely hooked. This is a tale of a journey, one that involves not only physical movement from place to place, but a journey that takes place within a person's heart-and their soul. Gavin doesn't want to believe Nakkole, or what she teaches him about himself, but he may not have a choice. Their futures, and those who depend on him, rests squarely on their shoulders. I enjoyed watching Gavin evolve, growing with every turn of the page, it seemed. Filled with magic, succubi, ogres, bravery and daring, DESTINY’S WARRIOR is a wildly fast-moving, engaging tale of love and trust. World-building at its best, this is a very satisfying read. Well done! Kay James |
