The Hopeless Romantic's Handbook

The further fortunes of everyone’s favorite assistant as she struggles to keep her footing on Hollywood’s slippery slope

In The Second Assistant, readers fell in love with smart, witty East Coast girl Elizabeth Miller. Now that Lizzie has been promoted, can she still keep her pumps firmly on the ground in the city of stars? With a viperish subordinate after her job, the world’s hottest teen starlet to keep out of trouble and a boyfriend on location with a beautiful actress, she certainly has her hands full.

The satire is sharper than ever as Naylor and Hare take another wry and hilarious look at the wheeling, dealing, schmoozing, and snubbing that make Hollywood the cutthroat capital of the world. The First Assistant is a lesson in how to survive in a town where tonight’s Oscar frock is tomorrow’s laughing stock.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

I thought this book was awesome! After reading it, I thought it sounded like someone I know... myself!

We meet Elizabeth, who has the dream job and the dream boyfriend with enough attitude and confidence to match. However, insecurity issues begin to take their toll on Elizabeth and we find that she is not in such a perfect position. Yes, she can choose to work or to spend the money on the credit card given to her by her boyfriend, or she can remain independent, which she is doing by taking the job. She must also deal with a power hungry individual at work who would stop at nothing to get her job, and having a boyfriend on the same shoot as his former fling does not give Elizabeth the confidence boost she desperately needs. Lastly, and probably the least fun, is keeping track of a young teenage actress in order to keep her out of trouble.

I absolutely loved this book! I think Naylor and Hare accurately explore the common misconceptions about the women in this world, evidenced by the hilarious look that they have of Hollywood.THE FIRST ASSISTANT is a possible great read that will leave your friends asking for more.
