Heart of the Winter Wolf by Dani Harper

Jillian had always depended on the white wolf in times of need. Was it coincidence that the wolf came back into her life at the same time that she met James Macleod, a giant of a man with the look of a Viking—and secrets she could only guess at?

James Macleod was a Changeling who'd lost everything dear to him in a single night of blood and fire. Devastated by guilt and driven by grief, he became a great white wolf and vowed never to walk as a man again - until a small blonde veterinarian shook his resolve and his world. Now James must remember how to be human and walk in his human skin again in order to solve a frightening riddle: Who is this beautiful woman and why is his wolfen side hunting her?

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

More than a typical wolf-to-human changeling story, HEART OF THE WINTER WOLF by Dani Harper pulls the reader into the world of veterinary science and the heart of Jillian Descharme, the doctor summoned to help release a wounded spirit.

This is a story about risking everything for love and many other things dearest to the heart, and about starting over when there seems to be no hope for happiness ever again. A long-ago experience with a white wolf leaves Jillian with a hunger to understand all she can about wolves. James Macleod might just be the expert she needs to find, and when the two are brought together, they are forced to deal with old demons. Releasing James from the hurt he's suffered seems to be an insurmountable task, but Jillian is an expert at healing.

I was very pleasantly surprised by HEART OF THE WINTER WOLF. It is a story filled with emotion and shows that even in the unlikeliest of places, romance can exist. Not just a changeling story—although that does, of course, play a large role in the plot—it is a love story that touched me deeply. I very much enjoyed reading this book, and I can easily recommend it.
