LORD OF THE NILE by Constance O'Banyon, is one of those books where the reader is caught up effortlessly in a tale that brings history to life. I was transported to a time where riding on the Nile on a barge while boatmen risked death in crocodile-infested waters was commonplace. The images were vivid and realistic, and I could see the scenes the author lay before me. Even renderings of sand-filled deserts felt lush and colorful. While the chemistry between the woman who tames beasts as easily as she hooks men and Ramtat, the handsome man who is caught between two worlds is searing, some of the plot is predictable. I enjoyed this book very much, but I wasn't at all surprised by the way it turned out. The tale is a solid one, interesting and sensual, but leaves little for the reader guess at. I love reading about ancient Egypt. If that's your thing, too, then LORD OF THE NILE is the book for you. Constance O'Banyon brings the nuances and romance of the time to life in great detail and shows that there was more to Cleopatra and her contemporaries than history books reveal. Kay James |
