He had stepped from the sky to claim her like an enchanted prince from the pages of a fairy tale, but behind the mesmerizing beauty of his violet eyes she saw the driving hunger of the beast and an endless sorrow only she could heal.

Only for him would she embrace her frightening magic. Only for him would she find the courage to confront the shadows that haunted her soul. For ahead an epic battle was fast approaching and only united could they hope to turn back the armies of darkness.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

I like LADY OF LIGHT AND SHADOWS, I just don't love it. The main reason for that is that the entire time I was reading it, I felt as though I was missing something. I knew who all the players were, what they were doing, and to some degree why, but I did not know how they came to be and I suspected I should. By certain turns of phrase in the book that alluded to past events, I just knew there was more to this story. Perhaps then and there I should have checked the database to see if it contained the name of a predecessor, but I did not. Why? Because every book should be able to stand on its own, with or without one. But after I read LADY OF LIGHT AND SHADOWS, I went to search out C.L. Wilson and the book I knew had to be ahead of this one.

LORD OF THE FADING LANDS is the book to read before you tackle LADY OF LIGHT AND SHADOWS. To be fair, and as I previously said, LADY OF LIGHT AND SHADOWS is a decent read, it is also very confusing. There are magical terms to deal with as well as strange races and their abilities to grasp. I spent the whole book never really understanding exactly what Tairen are. I still do not know and they are an essential part of the book.

So, as much as I enjoyed some of the magical elements and characters in this story, the nagging suspicion that I was not getting the whole picture as I read, kept me from enjoying it as much as I should have.
