In LORD OF THE FADING LANDS, Rainier vel'En Daris Feyreisen, the Tairen Soul, King of the Fading Lands and Defender of the Fey, knows that his people are dying. It rests upon his shoulders to discover a way to save both the Fey and the Tairen races. Rain willingly risks his life to ask the Eye of Truth how to save them from extinction. The Eye starts him on a journey to find a woman that is his destined Truemate. Rain has been mated before, but never has he had a Truemate. The humans still fear Rain because of the terrible wrath that he once delivered at the death of his mate. The rage that he went into nearly destroyed their whole world. Afterwards, Rain exiled himself to live a lonely life in the Fading Lands. That was nearly a thousand years ago—now he comes among them once again, this time to find the other half of his soul.

I found myself enthralled from the very beginning of this wonderful story. Rain is a great character with a tragic history. Many fear him because of the destruction he caused at the time of his mate's death, yet no one feels more responsible than Rain, himself. He holds himself to blame and it causes him great shame. He does not let how others feel about him stand in his way though, when he goes to find a way to save his people. He is a strong and honorable character that is easy to become attached to. I found the way the people treated him at times hard, but it is easy to understand. I found his two natures fascinating. The fact that he has the ability to change into a giant fire-breathing feline with wings is just simply awesome!

The story is filled with mystery and intrigue, as the dangers of the past try to use Rain's reputation and the people's fear against them. It is easy to see that there is a great battle coming sometime in the future. For now, the only thing that matters in this book is what Ellysetta feels for Rain. She is his Truemate. Their romance is filled with laughter and passion. Great chemistry exists between the two characters. Their courtship is filled with many surprises that left me feeling warm and smiling.

C.L. Wilson has created a marvelous world of fantasy where magic and shape-shifters are real. It mixes exciting action and intrigue with the great passion found in new romance. LORD OF THE FADING LANDS has something for everyone to enjoy, and I highly recommend it to the readers. I look forward to the next book in this exciting series.
