The Cat by Jean Johnson

Eight brothers, born in four sets of twins, two years apart to the day—they fulfill the Curse of Eight Prophecy. Though no longer trapped in exile, their growing family faces new problems. For the fifthborn son, it is getting his Destined bride to trust him…

Amara of the Shifterai has good reason to be wary of mages, when mages were responsible for chasing her and her sister out of their homeland. Being on the run for so long hasn’t put her in a trusting mood, yet there is something about Trevan of Nightfall—mage or not—that Amara finds difficult to resist. But can he be trusted with her most fiercely guarded secret?

Courting such a pretty yet prickly outlander won’t be easy, but Trevan is determined to try. She may be fierce, proud, and from a different culture, but he is the Cat, and none but the most fascinating and challenging of women could satisfy him. Of course, it would help if she stood still long enough for him to court her properly…

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS: Top Pick

I am so in love with these stories about eight brothers exiled to an island due to the Curse of Eight Prophecy. They are four sets of twins, all two years apart exactly. So now we are looking at the love life of the fifth born son and each prophecy is very clear, so it is very clear to him early on that Amari is supposed to be his. I love Trevan. From the very first book, I had always been interested to see how Trevan's story would turn out and I am so happy that I was not disappointed!

It was a nice surprise to see that Trevan was hooked up with a twin; that just made the story so much fun! And Amari is no wilting flower. She's quite the powerhouse of a heroine. She's got her beliefs and her understandings of things as she knows them, and nothing anyone says is going to change that. She has been raised to hate mages and being practically surrounded by them is not something she is comfortable with, let alone being told that she has to marry one! But, it is hard to resist Trevan, and he is very persistent... and what we get is a battle of wills that is fabulous!

I LOVE Trevan and Amari. She is strong, capable, beautiful and not at all intimidated by this island full of hulking mages. And Trevan—hubba hubba—I just love this man. He is so determined to find his love, he needs a woman in his life and he doesn't care the lengths he has to go to in order to find her.

I just love this series! The books just keep getting better! I am so excited to pick up the next three books and see how all eight brothers finally find their happily-ever-after!
