Demons Are Forever by Julie Kenner

Kate Connor's acquired a precious—but deadly—item that every demon within commuting distance is seething to get hold of. And with husband woes (the dead one and the living one) playing havoc with her emotions, an ambitious teenage protégée (her daughter) at her heels, and hell to pay, this stay-at-home mom's putting in a lot of overtime.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

DEMONS ARE FOREVER picks up where CALIFORNIA DEMON left off, so readers new to the series would do well to search out Carpe Demon before reading any further. Those who are caught up with Kate's adventures, however, will be glad to see the action starts early and is often. The mystery concerning David Long and his eerie similarities to Kate's first husband Eric continues.

I really liked this book. I haven't always enjoyed everything Julie Kenner has written—some of her earlier stuff was not for me—but Kate's adventures always hold my attention. Based on the previous installments in this series, I expected to be able to pick up DEMONS ARE FOREVER and not put it down until I was done, and I did. I expected to stay up into the night reading, telling myself, "Seriously, finish the chapter then turn off the light," and that's exactly what happened. Each chapter flows into the next in such a way that you can't possibly just finish the chapter and close the book. What I liked best about DEMONS ARE FOREVER, along with the other books in this series, is that the characters and the plot lines stay with you long after the book is finished. Despite the year-long wait between books, I didn't need to go back and reread the end of the previous book to remind myself what to expect from this one. Julie Kenner does everything right with this series and I can't wait to see what happens to Kate next!
