Through the Veil by Shiloh Walker

He's been waiting...

Found wandering in a field as a child, Lee Ross was given a name by the state and placed in a foster home—without anyone realizing she wasn't entirely human. All her life, she's tried to dismiss the odd dreams that have plagued her, dreams of monsters creeping through the night and a man fighting demons by her side. But the bruises she wakes up with are all too real to ignore...

Then the man from her dreams appears—in the flesh. His name is Kalen, and he insists that her destiny lies in his world, the world of her dreams. To save their people, he must convince Lee to give up everything she knows, follow her heart, and cross over into the Under Realm—even though once she does, she'll never be able to return...

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:4 Rose Read

THROUGH THE VEIL is interesting, no doubt about that, but it loses its appeal about half way in, when it gets all Sci-Fi crazy on me. Not that I have a problem with Sci-Fi mind you, because I love the Trek stuff just as much as the next Klingon. However, I feel THROUGH THE VEIL starts out in one direction and morphs into a completely different book.

I don't want this to sound like a major complaint because I do think this is a good read, but I must be honest. I am completely lost in all the different world(s) order, alien terminology, different gates, places, Warlords, Raviners... need I go on? So much stuff to remember when I prefer to focus on the many characters. I suppose I feel Lee, the heroine, is drowning in the same muck I am when she should be out kicking some bad guy booty.

Walker obviously has an unmatched imagination to come up with all the cool and crazy stuff she features in THROUGH THE VEIL. And while I have a few minor irritations with it, don't count it out. It's a worthwhile read just with the glossary.
