CATCH A SHADOW Author: Patricia Potter ISBN: 9780425221198 3/2008 SUSPENSE Publisher: BERKLEY SENSATION
As a romantic suspense, CATCH A SHADOW is okay. It's a book that I might pick up at the bookstore because the back of the jacket makes it sound really good, but in truth, it is mediocre. The characters are not really described all that well, except for the heroine, but that is because she keeps getting pushed in front of cars, hit, nearly kidnapped, etc., so I can picture her with a black eye and bruises with no problem. The hero? Well, from his description he is haggard and over weight. But, to be fair, I guess prison can do that to you. My point is that with their lackluster appeal, the chemistry between the two is ho-hum. Don't read this one for the romance. The plot is convoluted to the point that I have no idea how such subterfuge is possible. It's like the last season of Alias when things just became too much, even for a cool chic like Sydney Bristow. I lost track of how many places, faces, and aliases were involved after a bit with her, and CATCH A SHADOW effects me the same way. Well, here's hoping the next one will provoke my emotions enough that I can get off the fence and gush about it or hate it. Shannon Johnson |
