Where There's Fire by Maureen McKade

Shattered by her mother's death—and the fact that the killer got off scot-free—Detective Shoni Alexander is prepared to take the law into her own hands. And she's determined that nothing will get in her way. Not her badge, not the big arson case she's been assigned, and definitely not the mysterious witness who seems to see right through her...

Amnesiac John McClane has been living in a deserted warehouse. When the building is torched, the gorgeous cop working the arson case stirs feelings he thought were gone for good. But little does he know that he's about to piece together a past better left forgotten—or that Shoni's desire for retribution will jeopardize the future he's imagining for them...

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS: 4 Rose Read

With an enticing suspense and two mighty appealing lead characters generating gobs of sexual tension, WHERE'S THE FIRE is an exciting glued-to-your-seat thriller. And a terrific romance.

Maureen McKade quickly draws readers into a compelling mystery involving arson, murder and an amnesiac homeless witness, John McClane. This smoke and mirrors suspense will leave readers guessing until the end as practically no one and nothing is what it seems.

As Detective Shoni Alexander races to find a serial arsonist, she and McClane drive the heat index of WHERE'S THE FIRE to blazing with a scalding mutual attraction. These two complex, well-sketched characters are just dynamite together. Their unorthodox romance balances perfectly with the edgy, cagey suspense. Actually, Ms. McKade expertly weaves the romance with two seemingly separate mysteries—Shoni's search for an arsonist and her search for McClane's identity.

WHERE'S THE FIRE is my first Maureen McKade experience. It won't be my last. Ms. McKade understands the mechanics of good suspense and she can certainly deliver an incredible romance.
