The Highlander by Heather Grothaus

When Evelyn Godewin departs from her native England, she's looking for a new beginning. Yet fate has other plans in store for her when she's left stranded alone in an unforgiving highland forest, hunted by wolves as winter sets in. Determined to make the best of her surroundings, Evelyn seeks shelter in an abandoned cottage in the woods. But when Conall MacKerrick, a highland chief, bursts into the cottage and accuses her of trespassing, Evelyn tells him a lie she knows she will regret one day. Much to her surprise, she finds herself falling in love with the highlander...

Conall MacKerrick believes his clan is cursed, and when he meets Evelyn he thinks he has found the key to lifting that curse. He must marry her—or at the least, get her with child. Seducing the striking beauty is the only way to save his people and his pride. Even as he begins to trust that she will heal not only his people's troubles, but his own heart, he discovers the secret that could destroy their newfound love...

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS: Top Pick

There are very few authors that I can pick up one of their books and know that I am going to absolutely love every word of it. Heather Grothaus is one of those authors. Her books are top notch, one-of-a-kind romance novels that always set my heart to pumping wildly!

Evelyn is a feisty, beautiful heroine that is full of spit and vinegar and not taking any crap from anyone. She has run from England on the heels of a forced engagement, and being left alone out in the cold, attacked by wolves and living on horsemeat for a month has not broken her one bit. Her spirit is unshakeable and her zest for life a beautiful thing. So when a big, lumbering loudmouth of a Highlander forces himself into the little cabin where she has found respite, she is determined to save her home at all costs. Even if that means throwing this man to the wolves—literally.

When Conall comes upon his late uncle Ronan's cabin— that has since become HIS cabin—and realizes that there are squatters in his cabin, his rage knows no limits. He sets off to throw whoever is in his cabin out on their rear end, but he has not a clue that he is going to just about come to blows with a fiery beauty of a woman and her killer wolf. He has no idea what to make of this crazy woman with her penchant toward wild animals, but one thing he does know, she sets his blood on fire. Not to mention that she holds the key to solving literally every problem he has ever had—and he is not about to let her go.

THE HIGHLANDER keeps right on in the vein of all of Heather Grothaus's books. Steamy and full of passion, emotion, controversy and some good old-fashioned loving, this book has everything that I love in a romance novel! I'm beginning to believe that no one writes like Heather Grothaus—her romance novels set my heart to tingling and remind me what romance is all about after all.
