Allura by Christine Young

With her golden hair and cobalt eyes, Allura McClellan was a trophy beyond compare. Her hand in marriage given to any man who could discover her secret, she set out to bedevil every man who answered the ad her father placed in the London Times until Hunter Gray and Englishman, discovered her island and banished all other men from her life. Burning with indignation and passion, she was determined to keep her secret from the arrogant Englishman and to keep her independence at any cost.

The bastard son of an English earl, he made a name for himself in the service of his country. Hunter Gray vowed no one would keep him from winning the hand of the fair Allura and in doing so realizing his dreams. He was stronger and more cunning than the men who had come before. The man who had fought many a war against the French swore he would capture the heart of the passionate young woman he came to Scotland to claim.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS: 4 Rose Read

Allura’s world is about to change, and not for the better in her opinion. Being the oldest daughter she is expected to marry and produce heirs. But Allura wants nothing more than to escape to her island oasis and answer to no one. Her ageing father will wait no longer for her to find love and decides to take matters into his own hands.

Hunter Gray’s past is filled with hurt and pain. His intentions are to forge a better life for himself on his own, free from his past. So he travels to Scotland to win the Bride prize and the lands that come with it. But first he must find Allura’s secret, which he soon realizes is no easy task since Allura does all that she can to lead him astray, and keep her secrets well guarded.

The banter between Allura and Hunter was nothing hardcore; he never picked her up and threw her over his shoulder, nothing dramatic like that, which if he had resorted to something like that I wouldn’t have minded. But he had his tactics and they worked for him and for the story. Throughout the book you’ll be introduced to many characters with many different personalities. What ended up being a happy surprise was the story of Blade and Aiden; I hope there is more to come about those two.
