NIGHT HUNTRESS Author: Yasmine Galenorn ISBN: 9780425225462 1/2009 PARANORMAL Publisher: BERKLEY
NIGHT HUNTRESS continues the story of Galenorn’s Half-human/Half-fae D’Artigo sisters, this time focusing back on Deliliah and her state of affairs. The larger plot, that of Karvanak and the hunt for the Spirit Seals, serves to complicate her life beyond her endurance. Deliliah is my favorite sister of the three and Galenorn puts her through the ringer in this novel. Relationship troubles, family troubles and the search for the truth of who she is and what she means to the Autumn Lord overwhelm her almost. Honestly speaking, her problems with her boyfriend Chase are well-founded, but there is a lack of proactive change. She acknowledges the problems, she has a better choice of mates, but in the end she does nothing. That bothered me a whole lot. For long time readers of this series, the plotline throughout the books (Karvanak) is not progressed a whole lot. Not anything that isn't expected, at least. Not wholly unexpected, since the series isn't ending on this book, but I would give me left arm for a more decisive victory. The weakness in this book is that you do have to be a long time reader. Explaining Deliliah's role alone would take much too long—never mind her two other sisters and their relationships and powers. This isn't a series you can just skip around for the sister you like (which I would prefer) featured in the book. The threads aren't just intertwined, but thoroughly meshed screened together. In the end, if you like the series then you are likely to enjoy this book. If, like me, you only like certain aspects (or characters), find detailed synopses for the other books and borrow this one from the library. Alexandra Cenni |
