Moon Burn by Alisa Sheckley

Some instincts are too powerful to deny.

In the past year, veterinarian Abra Barrow has gone through some major changes: She’s left Manhattan for the deceptively quiet small town of Northside, ditched her cheating husband, and discovered that he has infected her with the rare werewolf virus. Now Abra is finally beginning to feel as if she has her life under control–except when the moon is full.

But then, all of a sudden, Abra starts losing her temper–and her inhibitions–even when the sun is shining. Her new man, shape-shifting wildlife expert Red Mallin, seems to know more about her condition than he’s letting on, but he’s a little preoccupied with strange creatures that have been crossing the dimensional border.

With her hormones in overdrive, Abra finds herself releasing the beast in all the men around her. As life in Northside becomes increasingly more peculiar–and more perilous–she must decide whom she can trust . . . when she’s not even sure she can trust herself.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS: Top Pick

After having read the prequel to this book, THE BETTER TO HOLD YOU, I was very anxious to read the second book in this series. In the first book we saw Abra go through a lot of changes and eventually learn how to stand up for herself. I was hopeful that this second book would expound more on that, as well as the other changes that have taken place…and boy, did it ever!

Abra is spunky and full of life—and libido—in MOON BURN. All of a sudden, Abra's hormones are kicking up a ruckus. And just as suddenly, she's getting responses to these hormones that she absolutely cannot fathom. Not only are there are new things happening with Abra's body that she cannot control (even in daylight!), but she has just found out that she may be able to have children... after having been told that she cannot. Suddenly, it’s a crap shoot to decide who can be trusted. But one thing's for certain: Abra is taking no crap from anyone, not the ex-husband's snarky mistress or her boyfriend Red, who she thinks is keeping secrets from her. Life is becoming stranger and stranger for Abra, but with a full cast of spirited characters and a slew of wild, rescued animals, Abra is on her way to some answers!

I absolutely loved this book! Alisa Sheckley shows her writing chops and gives readers a fabulous new world of werewolves to sink our teeth into! Abra's character aged like a fine wine from one book to the next—she just got better and better!
