Armistice by Bill Haworth

The 'Great War' (1914-1918) is in it's final hours; an armistice beginning at 11.00 hours has been agreed on but one unit is ordered to fight on until the very last minute. Desk bound generals and assorted 'top brass' desire their moment of glory before it all ends, putting at risk once again the lives of brave soldiers in the trenches. They themselves ponder their immediate future in the coming battle and some take a few moments to refelect on their lives.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

ARMISTICE is a short story about the end of World War I from the British point of view. It packs a great deal of information about war conditions at the Western front and life at the time in England into a small package.

If you aren't familiar with the period or the war, ARMISTICE is a good introduction to the horrific nature of that conflict and also serves as a warning about the different way man behaves when he interacts with someone in person, versus when people are faceless and nameless.

War is never pretty, and there is a terrible cost. ARMISTICE showcases both the beauty of the human spirit and its depravity.
