THE DEVIL'S PLAYGROUND Author: Jenna Black ISBN: 9780440244943 4/2010 PARANORMAL/URBAN FANTASY Publisher: DELL
Never thought I would see the day when a Morgan Kingsley novel would be less than stellar, and dare I say it? Boring!! But, THE DEVIL'S PLAYGROUND is freakishly different from the rest, and I am not happy about it. From the beginning, the trouble afoot in THE DEVIL'S PLAYGROUND doesn't seem all that threatening. The interaction between Lugh and Morgan isn't angst ridden, and Morgan's relationship with her brother, Brian, and Adam is ho-hum. Yes, I said Morgan's relationship with Adam is ho-hum! I think I am having an out-of-body experience, because ho-hum and Adam do not belong in the same sentence. The fact that I feel this way is beyond weird to me. In the past, some of the stories in this series scared me, repulsed me, and even kept me up at night! Honestly, I feel the series is a breakthrough in paranormal reads and one of the most evolving, interesting, and more creative the genre has to offer! So, I do not say these negative things lightly and am actually having a hard time typing them. I don't know what happened to the thrill that is a Morgan Kingsley novel, but I do know that I want it back, and Ms. Black is more than capable of giving it to me. Shannon Johnson |
