Eternal Kiss of Darkness by Jeaniene Frost

An immortal war has been brewing in the darkness . . .

And now one woman has stumbled into the shadows.

Chicago private investigator Kira Graceling should have just kept on walking. But her sense of duty refused to let her ignore the moans of pain coming from inside a warehouse just before dawn. Suddenly she finds herself in a world she's only imagined in her worst nightmares.

At the center is Mencheres, a breathtaking Master vampire who thought he'd seen it all. Then Kira appears—this fearless, beautiful . . . human who braved death to rescue him. Though he burns for her, keeping Kira in his world means risking her life. Yet sending her away is unthinkable.

But with danger closing in, Mencheres must choose either the woman he craves, or embracing the darkest magic to defeat an enemy bent on his eternal destruction.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS: 4 Rose Read

I wholeheartedly agree that Mencheres needed his own story. The problem is that I expected his story to be utterly unforgettable. After all, Mencheres is, well, he is Mencheres! Old as dirt, with a captivating past and powers unlike any other vamp ever, right? Right?! Apparently, not so much. I mean yes, he is all of those things, but I couldn't tell it from his story!

Perhaps the depth of emotion I felt while reading FIRST DROP OF CRIMSON has spoiled me for another Frost story in the series. To say that one is hard to beat is an understatement. After all, ETERNAL KISS OF DARKNESS does show a side to Mencheres that I have never been introduced to before, and he still is fascinating; he performs a ritual that is amazing! I think I just want a little more "life" and thrill to his story and not be somewhat depressed for the first few chapters.

Well, it isn't like Frost can write a bad book in this series, so of course, I recommend ETERNAL KISS OF DARKNESS. I still think Mencheres will show up in whatever the next tale Cat and Bones, and Denise and Spade show up in. Count me in to review it.
