Last Night's Scandal by Loretta Chase

After surviving the perils of Egypt, Peregrine Dalmay, Earl of Lisle, is back in London, facing the most dire threat of all: his irrational family . . . and Miss Olivia Wingate-Carsington. A descendant of notorious—but very aristocratic—swindlers, the delectable redhead has the ability to completely unhinge him and a long history of dragging him into her scandalous schemes.

Olivia may be Society's darling, but she's aware a respectable future looms menacingly. And so when Lisle is forced to go on a family mission, she sees this as the perfect chance for one last adventure—even if it is with the one man in the world she can't wrap around her finger. But really, she only wants to help . . .

Which is why Lisle and Olivia find themselves in a gloomy Scottish castle inhabited by spiteful ghosts and craven murderers . . . and a shocking secret: the greatest peril of all may be burning within their own stubborn hearts.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS: Top Pick

I feel pretty confident in saying anyone who’s ever read LORD PERFECT has been waiting for this book. Having only discovered Loretta Chase a few years ago, I, luckily, haven’t had to wait as long as others to finally see Peregrine and Olivia have their own story. I am happy to report that no matter how long you’ve been waiting, LAST NIGHT'S SCANDAL is worth the wait. Everything that made Peregrine and Olivia such outstanding characters in LORD PERFECT is still present—somehow, Chase really managed to take all of the personality quirks that made them so lovable in LORD PERFECT and realistically aged the characters. I also loved that just as in LORD PERFECT, the duo get to go on a Grand Adventure and just happen to fall in love along the way.

I read LAST NIGHT'S SCANDAL about three months ago, but as I sit down to write this review, all of the warm fuzzies I had while reading just came flooding back. I loved the Aunties that went on their vacation; I loved the bumbling ghosts (though I think I liked them more in hindsight than I did during the story); and I loved the adventure they embarked upon. Truly, from start to finish, I enjoyed LAST NIGHT'S SCANDAL.

You don’t need to have read LORD PERFECT to appreciate how great LAST NIGHT'S SCANDAL is, but it sure won’t hurt either!
