SHATTERED Author: Joan Johnston ISBN: 9780778328292 1/2010 CONTEMPORARY Publisher: MIRA
SHATTERED is probably the fifth or so novel in the series, Bitter Creek, and is about Kate Grayhawk Pendelton who is in love with Jack McKinley. The problem is that technically he’s still married to Holly. The other monkey wrench in this novel is that Kate was married to J.D., who faked his death, and technically she’s not truly free to be with Jack either. The other twist to this story is that Kate, while married to J.D., had a one night stand with Wyatt Shaw, a mobster’s son. What follows is a tangled weave of lies, secrets, and adultery. The one thing I love about Joan Johnston is how there’s so much drama to keep you on the edge of your seat—you just can’t put her novels down. I’ve read many of the earlier Bitter Creek novels from the library and loved every single one. SHATTERED is no exception. Nothing that happens in this story is predictable. It’s bittersweet, romantic, and you root for the one person you wouldn’t expect to in a million years. Would I read this novel again? Yes, I believe I would. So yet again, I’ve read another winner. That’s four for four for me, lately. Angela Arno |
