DARK VIKING Author: Sandra Hill ISBN: 9780425237403 10/2010 HISTORICAL/TIME TRAVEL Publisher: BERKLEY
DARK VIKING is the seventh of Hills Viking Navy SEALS series, and while I enjoyed it, it felt pretty interchangeable with other novels I’ve read in the series. Hill’s signature humor and kookiness is on display as Navy WEAL-in-training Rita Sawyer time travels to Viking-era Norway, where she meets the depressed brother of a SEAL she slightly knows. Steven of Norstead thinks she is a sea creature and leaves her locked in a cage, but the resourceful Rita escapes and finds a home for herself among his people while he is off trying to rescue his sister, who has been captured by a pirate. The two fall in lust, then love. I did like this literary approach to female warriors and the witch supporting characters were interesting, as well as the historical details. Heather Hiestand |
