Eternal Hunger by Laura Wright

In the dark, fear and desire are one...

Alexander Roman wants nothing to do with those of his vampire breed. Fate places him at the door of Dr. Sara Donohue, who is dedicated to removing patients' traumatic memories. But as their world's collide, Sara and Alexander are bound by something even stronger as one becomes hunter and the other, prey. And Sara's only chance of survival is to surrender to the final—and most unimaginable—desire of her life.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS: Top Pick

Laura Wright's Mark of the Vampire series starts off with a bang with Alexander Roman's story in ETERNAL HUNGER.  There is such an amazing setup of the plot for these books that even without the romance, I was caught up in the angst and drama of what is going on in the battle between all the different entities that make up this remarkable cast of characters.  We have the purebred sons of the breeding male—Alexander, Nicholas, and Lucian (YOWZA); the other purebred vampires; the impure vampires; and the Order ( the ruling order over this breed of vampires).  So, we begin the Mark of the Vampire series with Alexander's book, and what a story he has to tell.

Alexander is the PERFECT hero.  He is just the right amount of broody, testosterone-filled, alpha male to be the eldest of the Roman brothers, and therefore, the leader of these hot-as-fire males.  He's a take no prisoners kind of guy; he takes no crap from anyone, including the Order, and he's the kind of man who always needs to be in control.  So, when he finds himself helpless and in pain—literally—on Sara Donohue's doorstep, he has no idea how intense his immediate reaction is going to be to this beautiful woman who saves his life.

Sara Donohue has been through a lot in her life—dealing with a horrible past, a mentally ill brother, and a stalker of an ex-patient, she really doesn't have the time or inclination to get herself involved in Alexander Roman's problems.  But by helping him when she comes home to find him passed out in her doorway, that's exactly what happens.  She is immediately drawn to Alexander; she can't explain the connection or how it happens in the blink of an eye.  No sooner does Sara open her door than Alexander realizes that Sara needs his help as well, and being the alpha male that he is, pretty soon, the rescued becomes the rescuer.

I truly love every aspect of this book.  Sara is no simpering miss—she is a good, solid counterpart to Alexander.  Once she knows who and what he is, she doesn't spend half the book fighting him and fainting every chance she gets.  And Alexander is a good leader, a gentleman and a savage, all at one time.  The combination is addictive.  I couldn't put the book down, reading into the wee hours of the night to get it all finished at one time.  ETERNAL HUNGER is sexy, steamy, good reading, and fans of paranormal romance are going to love this new world that Laura Wright has created, just for them.
