A Hotter-Than-Sin Hero with an Agenda

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS: 4 Rose Read

Linda Wisdom continues her light-hearted tales of witches with this new story. The featured witch this time is Maggie O’Malley, a seven-hundred-year-old member of the Hellion Guard. Their mission is to defend innocents like Courtney, a teenage girl of interest to demons.

Demons are of interest to O’Malley and her friends as well, at least sexy half-demons like Declan, half-fire demon, childhood abuse survivor, and brother to a full demon seer. Declan has a sometimes tenuous connection to the main plot. I kept having flashbacks to the TV show Charmed and the romance with half-demon Cole during the romantic scenes.

I read an advance copy of this novel, rather than the final version, and sadly, it read like a first draft. I could see an engaging story and characters within, one that would have been right up my alley, but it was hard to follow due to the randomness of some of the prose. I hope the story has been significantly cleaned up for its actual release. Also, based on the back cover copy, I thought the Mayans would be more prominent in the story, but they were re-imagined as demons and all but missing in the version I read.

All in all, a very frustrating reading experience!
