THE ROCKY ROAD TO ROMANCE Author: Janet Evanovich ISBN: 9780060598891 12/2011 CONTEMPORARY Publisher: HARPER COLLINS
I'm not going to beat around the bush. Janet Evanovich is one of my all-time favorite authors. I have read all of her Plum novels, and loved every one. Having her early romances re-released just makes my day. THE ROCKY ROAD TO ROMANCE is just too delicious to put down! Ridiculously screwball, over-the-top romantic, decadently steamy, with unforgettable characters, it is a great example of why this author's work shines with me. She tells a great story, filled with fun people in interesting situations. It's offbeat and quirky enough to be intriguing, but not so out-there that no one would believe it. Daisy Adams is just an ordinary woman doing what she has to do to get by. She's caring for her younger brother, chasing her dreams and driving the biggest wreck on the block. That is, until a spot opens up at the radio station where she's a dog recipe expert (no, I am not kidding!), and she jumps into the station car to give live traffic reports. It's not enough that she's awful at driving, reporting and staying focused; she's got to get herself into trouble by literally crashing into a criminal. Everything takes a twist when her life is in danger, leading to the hunky boss saving her—basically, for his own purposes! She's not his type, but hey, he's not a dog guy, either. Neither matters because soon he's got a wacky dog as well as Daisy, her geriatric bodyguard and her eating machine brother in his house. I loved every single bit of this book. I loved it so much, I'm going to buy copies for anyone I know who I think needs a good laugh. Or two. I giggled through the crazy romance and have every intention of reading this book whenever I feel the slightest bit down. Well done! Kay James |
