A SCOTTISH LOVE Author: Karen Ranney ISBN: 9780062027788 12/2011 HISTORICAL Publisher: AVON
I often gush about Ranney's books. At times, I think I sound like a broken record because I normally have nothing but praise for her writing. However, I am nothing if not honest, and Ranney is one of the best. A SCOTTISH LOVE is brilliant and beautiful, and like so many of her stories, it is heartbreaking, too. Written in a magnetic style that draws attention from page one, Ranney spares no detail or depth to the characters or scenery. The heroine is feisty and so proud at times, I want to shake her. So many times I yelled at her to just be sensible, to admit it all, but I suppose if she had, the story would not be as compelling as it is. The hero is obviously still mourning the loss of her love, but is not about to give her the easy way out. With unexpected plot twists and a hauntingly lovely mystery in the background, their love story is truly enrapturing—and tortuous! Mary Jo Putney is quoted as calling Karen Ranney "A writer of rare intelligence and sensitivity." I could not agree more. Her stories are filled with passion, wit, and romance that takes my breath away. A SCOTTISH LOVE is magnificent! Shannon Johnson |
