I really enjoyed reading KISS OF THE ROSE, so when I found BLOOD OF THE ROSE in my TBR pile, I couldn't wait to dig into it! The second in The Tudor Vampire Chronicles, BLOOD OF THE ROSE does not quite measure up to its predecessor, but I like it anyway. The main reason I like BLOOD OF THE ROSE is because of its creative references to Anne Boleyn. I won't give it all away, but the whole idea of Anne possibly being a vampire is what holds the story together! Without her magnetic performance, BLOOD OF THE ROSE falls flat. Christopher and Rosalind's rocky romance could not keep this one afloat on its own, and if anything, their spats are boring. Anne is definitely the savior here. There are scenes in BLOOD OF THE ROSE that I roll my eyes at for their silliness, and at times, I feel like I have read the same part before. Most certainly, KISS OF THE ROSE is the better of the two, but The Tudor Vampire Chronicles is a promising series that I hope gets better as it continues. Shannon Johnson |
