Deadly Heat by Cynthia Eden
She wants revenge . . .
Six months after her lover died in an arsonist's blaze, firefighter Lora Spade calls in the FBI's elite Serial Services Division to track the elusive killer. When Special Agent Kenton Lake is lured into a violent inferno, Lora pulls him to safety and is stunned - not by the fire, but by her own searing attraction to Kent. For the first time in months, she longs for something other than vengeance.

He wants her . . .
Kenton's interest in Lora should be purely professional. But one fleeting kiss and he can't get her out of his mind. Her combination of strength and vulnerability makes him want to protect her, and that means solving this case—and fast. For even the passion igniting between them can't hide a terrifying truth: Lora is the next target in a murderer's sadistic, fiery game.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

The Serial Services Division of the FBI is back again, this time on the hunt for a serial arsonist in Virginia.  Special Agent Kenton Lake is the lead sent by the division’s director.  Kenton finds himself running into a burning building his first day on the case.  He is saved by firefighter Lora Spade, who requested their presence.  Much like DEADLY FEAR, the FBI agents work with the local authorities, in this case, the police department and the fire department, to find and stop the arsonist.  Along the way, Kenton and Lora, a target for the criminal, become romantically involved making this case personal for Kenton.

After how much I enjoyed DEADLY FEAR, I was expecting a lot from DEADLY HEAT.  It didn’t quite meet those expectations, but it is by no means a bad book.  Some aspects which were fresh and interesting in DEADLY FEAR were repeated in this novel, without the same intensity.  With this book, I found that I cared more about figuring out who the arsonist was, than following the relationship between Kenton and Lora, two characters that I couldn’t quite bring myself to truly like.

Keeping that in mind, I will still continue reading the series and think that Samantha’s story, DEADLY LIES, will be better.
