A GIRL'S GUIDE TO VAMPIRES Author: Katie MacAlister ISBN:9780062019301 1/2011 PARANORMAL Publisher: AVON
While this reprint of A GIRL'S GUIDE TO VAMPIRES has its funny moments, a sexy hero, and is a good introduction to the Dark Ones novels, deep down, I feel this one is in the running for having the most annoying heroine ever developed. I really do not like Joy. As a heroine, she isn't much of one. She talks and talks...and talks some more. She rationalizes crazy things that even a mental patient would argue against. Even when things seem as though they will finally work out between her and her hero, she still manages to go against everything he asks or needs her to do. She is annoyingly willful, not endearingly so, and, at times I want to put a gag in her mouth and tie her to a chair. I really do not like Joy. Now that I have the worst part of my review off of my chest, let me say that there are some very funny scenes and a few interesting characters in A GIRL'S GUIDE TO VAMPIRES. I had a few hearty chuckles and enjoyed some of the strangeness of the Goth Faire right along with the characters. I will even classify this one as a light, entertaining romance read that shows off MacAlister's flare for turning what could be dark and dreary into something silly and fun. While this one is not my favorite MacAlister read, it is still worth picking up if you missed it the first time. Shannon Johnson |
