I Dream of Genies by Judi Fennell
He needs to change his luck, and fast!

Matt Ewing would gladly hunt down a fortune in lucky pennies if he thought it would help save his business. But for all his hoping, Matt’s clueless when his long awaited lucky charm falls in his lap in the form of a beguiling genie. He just can’t believe that this beautiful woman could be the answer to his prayers…

She’s been bottled up for far too long!

Spending 2,000 years in a bottle would make any woman go a little stir crazy. So when Matt releases Eden from her luxurious captivity, she’s thrilled to repay him by giving him the magical boost he needs… But for all her good intentions, Eden’s magical prowess is a little rusty and her magical mistakes become more than embarrassing. And though Eden knows falling in love will end her magic and immortality, she can’t help but be drawn to the one man who wants her just for herself…

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS: Top Pick

Judi Fennell begins her paranormal romance I DREAM OF GENIES (series Book 1) in Seattle, where Eden is stuck in her bottle in an antique store. She hasn’t been out in 2000 years, and even though she’s able to keep up with technology inside her domain, she isn’t allowed to use it to free herself. Suddenly, the store owner closes up shop in order to retire and sets Eden and her bottle out for the trash man. With a slight accident, she is freed from her bottle, it goes off to the landfill, and she lands in the lap of the hunk she admires as he runs past the antique store window each morning. He’s a carpenter who really wants to be an architect, but he’s barely hanging onto his business as it is. To some people, having a beautiful woman fall into their arms would be a sign of good luck, but Matt just sees Eden as another burden. Will he be able to see the truth of his situation before he loses everything important to him?

Fennell really has fun setting up quirky, funny, and outright embarrassing situations for Matt, who is usually a pretty straight shooter. He has to find a way to explain the beautiful Eden (and her wise-cracking friend who’s been in the form of a cat to keep her company, as well as the baby dragon that she’s been training) to his family, and just when he gets comfy with her reality... POOF! The evil genie master tracks her down and sends her off to Arabia. How will he and the cat rescue her now? She makes full use of cultural connections with Barbara Eden’s role from the 60’s sitcom as well as anything we’ve ever heard about genies from literature. I especially enjoyed the tasks that the cat has to perform to get his life back. The trials set before Eden and Matt are more bizarre and a little scarier.

I DREAM OF GENIES is the perfect story to start out this series, and since Eden manages to release all of the other genies from the master’s control, I foresee a lot of “genie-ous” mayhem and laughter in the future.
