THE RANGER Author: Monica McCarty ISBN:9780345518262 1/2011 HISTORICAL Publisher: BALLANTINE
THE RANGER is the third book in Monica McCarty’s Highland Guard series, focusing this time on Arthur “Ranger” Campbell. Arthur is the scout and undercover knight of the group who provides inside information to Bruce’s side. His latest assignment is to infiltrate the MacDougall army, headed by John MacDougall, the man who killed his father. The assignment presented the perfect opportunity for justice after years of waiting—if only he wasn’t falling for Anna, his enemy’s daughter. I am quite a fan of McCarty’s books, although I haven’t had the opportunity to read them all. She does a great job with Highland romances, which is a bit hard to come by these days. THE RANGER is another one of her novels that I just genuinely liked. When I was finished reading it, I felt good about the story and happy for the characters. It was obvious through the entire story why the two were attracted to each other and why they fell in love. THE RANGER is another complete romance from McCarty that adds enough of the King Bruce story so as not to make it too sappy, but also doesn’t overpower the main romance. Christina Baker |
