Trace of Fever by Lori Foster
CAUGHT IN THE CROSSFIRE OF VENGEANCE AND DESIRE

Undercover mercenary Trace Rivers loves the adrenaline rush of a well-planned mission. First he'll earn the trust of corrupt businessman Murray Coburn, then gather the proof he needs to shut down the man's dirty smuggling operation. It's a perfect scheme—until Coburn's long-lost daughter saunters in with her own deadly plan for revenge.

With a smile like an angel and fire in her eyes, Priscilla Patterson isn't who she seems to be. But neither is the gorgeous bodyguard who ignites all her senses. Joining forces to plot Coburn's downfall, Priss and Trace must fight the undeniable heat between them. For one wrong move, one lingering embrace, will expose them to the wrath of a merciless opponent....

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

Second in the Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor series is TRACE OF FEVER, featuring Trace Rivers, a friend and business partner of Dare's from the previous book. After Dare saved Trace's sister Alani from human traffickers, Trace sets out on a mission to bring down those who participate in the sale of people. While undercover, he encounters Priscilla Patterson, the alleged daughter of the man he's preparing to take down.

Trace is a little harder than Dare, who turned out to have a super soft heart, and it shows. Because both Trace and Pris are attempting to destroy the trafficking business, readers are never left out of the loop in regards to their mission.  A downside for me was the heroine.  She seemed inconsistent, becoming silly and immature about 60 percent into the story.  With a better heroine, I would have enjoyed it more.  However, readers are introduced to Jackson Savor, who will be the hero in SAVOR THE DANGER.  The scenes with him in it were fun to read (watch for his rescue of Pris and subsequent conversations referring to it), and I expect Alani to be a great match for him.  And, yes, for those that read WHEN YOU DARE, Chris is back, sarcastic as ever, with an equally amusing friend named Matt.  Because of these characters, I thought, despite the subject matter, TRACE OF FEVER was a bit lighter in tone.
