A Lot Like Love by Julie James
THE FBI WANTS HER COOPERATION.

As the daughter of a billionaire and the owner of the city’s top wine store, Jordan Rhodes is invited to the most exclusive parties in Chicago. But there’s only one party the FBI wants to crash: the charity fundraiser of a famous restaurateur, who also happens to launder money for the mob. In exchange for her brother’s release from prison, Jordan is going to be there—with a date supplied by the Bureau.

AGENT McCALL JUST WANTS HER.

As the top undercover agent in Chicago, Nick McCall has one rule: never get personal. This “date” with Jordan Rhodes is merely an assignment—one they’re both determined to pull off even if they can’t be together for five minutes before the sarcasm and sparks begin to fly. But when Nick’s investigation is compromised, he and Jordan have no choice but to pretend they’re a couple, and what starts out as a simple assignment begins to feel a lot like something more. . .

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS: Top Pick

My first novel with Julie James can only be described as a delightful, humorous surprise.  In A LOT LIKE LOVE, readers have the privilege of following FBI Agent Nick McCall and wine store owner Jordan Rhodes on their journey into love.

At a time when most authors are writing romantic suspense that surrounds around a deep dark plot, James pens a novel about two people falling in love who also happen to be involved in a federal case.  Having the majority of the book’s focus on the contemporary romance instead of the case was a refreshing change.  James uses subtle, playful language to detail a sweet, developing relationship between her characters.  There were quite a few times where I found myself laughing out loud at the sly wine banter.  Jordan and Nick were fantastic characters that I know I would like if they really existed.  Everything about A LOT LIKE LOVE was believable, with the author not stretching any parts of the story.

This one was a joy to read, and I cannot believe Julie James managed to slip under my radar.  I am eager to go back and read her previous novels.  If they are anything like this, then I am in for a treat.
