England is in constant battle with Scotland for control.  Bruno of Jernaeve is Squire for King Stephen of England.  His King has always been kind to him, and Bruno swore fealty  and fought by his side.  Milusine of Ulle was captured in one of the battles, and was and is now residing at the castle in London.  To try to find a way to join the two countries, King Stephen forces a marriage between Bruno and Milusine.  Queen Maud talked both of them into the marriage thinking to find love for Bruno, and hints to Milusine it could be a way for her  to someday return to her home.  The two lovers grow attracted to each other, not knowing the excitement, adventures, and trials in store for them.

FIRES OF WINTER is filled with medieval history and the politics of the time.  The research alone for author Roberta Gellis had to have been immense.  The story unfolds until I felt I was there with this couple, walking down the halls of castles, riding over mountains, moors and through forests. Buried in the politics of the royalty, trying to find out who was the real friend to the crown and who was not.

Roberta Gellis has grown as a writer over the years, into the perfection of FIRES OF WINTER.  This is not just a historical romance, but much more than that.  It is a trip back in history where I lived each day of this important time in England.  To see the fierceness of the battles, the cruelties of the politics, and the every day life of the most powerful royalties of the time... I actually got to know the thoughts of our hero and heroine.  FIRES OF WINTER is a masterpiece!  An epic adventure!  Good job!
