One Grave at a Time by Jeaniene Frost
How do you send a killer to the grave when he’s already dead?

Having narrowly averted an (under)World War, Cat Crawfield wants nothing more than a little downtime with her vampire husband, Bones. Unfortunately, her gift from New Orleans’s voodoo queen just keeps on giving—leading to a personal favor that sends them into battle once again, this time against a villainous spirit.

Centuries ago, Heinrich Kramer was a witch hunter. Now, every All Hallows Eve, he takes physical form to torture innocent women before burning them alive. This year, however, a determined Cat and Bones must risk all to send him back to the other side of eternity—forever. But one wrong step and they’ll be digging their own graves.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS: 4 Rose Read

Yay! Another Cat and Bones story, and boy, am I glad to read it! I love Jeaniene Frost's characters, and she doesn't disappoint me with ONE GRAVE AT A TIME.

To say Cat and Bones are like Luke and Laura is probably not quite accurate, but everyone should know what I mean. They just are THAT couple. The couple that cannot fit any better than they do. They make fate seem real and "true love forever" (well, they are undead!) be more than just a phrase. In ONE GRAVE AT A TIME, Cat and Bones are more in sync than ever. I might have been quite content to read a story with them together, basking in all that vampire love...okay, not really. Cat and Bones are best when they are up to their necks in craziness, and they most certainly are here!

What keeps this one from getting a Top Pick is that Cat is hit in the head every five minutes, and some of the fight scenes are a bit laughable because of it. A bit more originality during those parts of the story would be most welcome, although I will say that the big showdown at the end makes up for most of my dissatisfaction.

With a host of outlandish characters, stranger than normal plot, and action, action, action, ONE GRAVE AT A TIME is a page turner. Frost does a great job of keeping me off balance and guessing until the end. The scenes are creative and messy (EXCESSIVE pain and gore, so beware), and I know there is still much more to come in the Night Huntress saga.
